Kindergarten: Henri Matisse!

To begin studying shape, we read the book: Henri Matisse Drawing with Scissors by Keesia Johnson and Jane O’connor and Illustrated by Jessie Hartland.  The students learned that as Henri Matisse aged, he could no longer stand for long periods of time and paint.  He would have his assistants paint paper for him and then he would use scissors to cut out beautiful, organic shapes and make collages.  Our Kindergarten artists used watercolors to paint paper and then once it dried, practiced cutting out geometric and organic shapes.
